You can safely shoot any STANDARD birdshot, buckshot OR rifled slug through any STANDARD choke from Cylinder Bore to Full. Where you can get into trouble is in shooting buckshot or slugs through non-standard, extra Full specialty chokes. Sep 18, 2008 · A fixed full choke is no different than a screw-in full choke. Therefore you could shoot anything out of one that you could out of the other. I've unloaded everything from #8's to #BB's through both my Full and my XX-Full chokes without issue, so I think you'll be fine. Nov 07, 2015 · You actually can shoot slugs through a choke. Be careful though and consult your manual for your particular firearm and choke situation. As a general rule of thumb, and we all know there are exceptions to the rule, you can shoot a slug out of a shotgun barrel that has a choke if you are using a modified choke or larger.

I usually like to use #1 buckshot instead of #00 buckshot because you have more pellets and they pattern a lot better from my guns. I prefer the full choke barrel but every gun is different so I'd try different chokes until I got what I wanted.
